Posting on Twitter is a great way to share anything with anyone quickly. But, tweets posted on Twitter can have different purposes like just for information, general news, images, offers, etc. Now this is something really cool. Deleting the tweets automatically when they are no longer needed.
Pierre Legrain, who was marketing manager at Twitter, created a very simple solution for this, its called Spirit. It allows you to set an expiration time for your tweets using hashtags while posting your tweet. The tweet with expiration hashtag will self-destruct after the set time has passed.
Why to auto-delete tweets?
There can be many scenarios when you will want your tweets to delete automatically.
- When you are promoting your product for sometime only. For instance you are giving 20% discount from 1 AM till 3 AM for only two hours. So you will want your tweet to self-destruct after 3 AM so that your followers don’t see that tweet and get confused or disappointed.
- When you are tweeting more like IM to a particular follower like while providing support or answering any queries of your customers.
How to start?
You don’t need to download any thing, just sync your Twitter account with Spirit. That’s it.
- Visit Spirit (http://www.twitterspirit.com)
- Click on Get Spirit and login with your Twitter account to grant read and write permissions to the app.
- Tada. You are done.
You can create tweets using hashtags like #7m (for 7 minutes), #24h (for 24 hours) or #5d (for 5 days). Now just post your tweets with the hashtags from the web, from your smart phone or simple SMS and Spirit will delete it automatically at the set time.
How to stop?
You can stop Spirit from deleting your tweets anytime, just login to your Twitter account and from Twitter Applications find Spirit and revoke access to the app.
Spirit works like Mr. India (remember Anil Kapoor, the invisible man from Bollywood movie Mr. India). Seriously, it works in the background and you don’t see or feel anything. Your tweets get deleted whenever you want them to. Its that awesome.
